This afternoon from my kitchen window I quietly watched a Scrub Jay pick at newly forming buds peaking out from the safety of its branches. One by one they disappeared, never to reach their full potential. It was fascinating to watch one life give way so that another can survive. Even though Scrub Jays can be awfully loud & obnoxious, he was wonderful to watch hopping about from limb to limb, looking for just the right buds to snatch. Wonderful simply because he represents the subtle changes the give way to endless amounts of rain & bursts of new blooms sprouting all across campus. The rain paints the colors we long for. The rain brings the sunshine.
